Plan your journey in Glasgow
Where to begin? Glasgow's arts and culture scene has few equals. The red sandstone Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum houses one of Europe's great art collections. The Burrell Collection, housed in parkland just outside the city, reveals one man's collection of over 9,000 objects. These comprise works by Rodin, Degas and Cézanne, as well as examples of late medieval art, Chinese and Islamic art.On Glasgow Harbour, the locally constructed Tall Ship floats beside the Riverside (transport) Museum. On-ship displays recreate shipboard life during its heyday in 1896, while inside the museum whole streets have been recreated from the city's past.
Cross the Bridge of Sighs and visit the Necropolis: the views are wonderful; the elaborate Victorian tombs are bewitching; and with luck you might see wild deer bounding between the graveyard's statues.
The Botanic Gardens in Glasgow's west end cover 50 acres of leafy lawns. At their centre, wrought iron-framed glasshouse Kibble Palace encloses exotic ferns.
