In and around Palma de Mallorca
It’ll take you around 20 minutes to drive to central Palma once you’ve picked your rental car up from our Palma de Mallorca Airport location. Avis also have offices at Majorca Cala Millor, Majorca Puerto Alcudia Seaport and Majorca Santa Ponsa.Palma (Palma de Mallorca) is the capital and largest city in the Balearic islands in Spain. You’ll find that Palma has culture, beaches, nightlife and art in abundance.
Those looking for peace and tranquillity should visit The Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma (also known as La Seu). It’s a Gothic Roman Catholic cathedral which is beautiful inside and out, especially at night when it’s is lit up. The cathedral is set on the bay and has immaculately kept gardens and a small museum to enjoy.
Opposite the cathedral you’ll find the Almudaina Palace (Palau de l’Almudaina) which was originally built as an Arabian Fort but claimed as official royal residence in the 14th century and is still used by the Spanish Royal family today.
Es Baluard Museum of Contemporary Art is one of Spain’s most important museums. It houses over 500 works of modern art over three floors and you’ll be delighted with sculptures, paintings, ceramics and of course, contemporary, pieces of art. You’ll find works from famous artists such as Picasso, Cézanne and Gauguin as well as up and coming artists.
Palma has some great bars and La Lonja is the place to head for nightclubs, restaurants and jazz clubs. If you’re looking for a more local experience, head to Plaça Major where you’ll find tapas restaurants and independent bars.
Plan your trip from Palma de Mallorca
Drive to Campos and stop off at one of the island’s most famous beaches, Es Trenc which is an unspoilt and natural beach. Campos is a traditional rural town and has a variety of good restaurants where you can sample typical Spanish dishes.Manacor is where you’ll find the famous Caves of Drach (Cuevas del Drach) which are four huge caves full of fantastic rock and limestone formations. Hidden within the caves is Lake Martel which is a beautiful underground lake, named after the French explorer Édouard-Alfred Martel.
Alcudia is quieter than a lot of the tourist resorts in Mallorca, parts of the town date back to 1300. The beaches of Alcudia Bay are beautiful with sandy white beaches and clear, shallow waters making them family friendly.
There are lots of activities on offer in Port Alcudia. Choose from crazy golf, water parks and go-karting – lots to keep the kids entertained. The Old Town of Alcudia is very pretty with its original city walls and narrow streets and a vibrant street market which sells all sorts of wares.

- Dipped headlights must be used in poor daylight visibility
- Always use indicators, you will be fined for not using indicators when needed

Child safety / Seatbelt laws
- It is compulsory for the driver and all passengers to wear a seatbelt
- Children aged under 12 and less than 135cm tall must be seated in an appropriate child restraint for their size
- Children aged under 12 are not allowed to sit in the front seat
