Drive for 120 miles from St. Pancras car hire to one of the prettiest cities in Britain. Bath reveals the best preserved Roman spa from the ancient world. Behind the walls of the Pump Rooms lie a series of colonnaded verandas leading to open courtyards and an enormous jade-green pool. Take to the pools yourself at Thermae, a rooftop aquatic centre which opened in 2006 alongside the ancient complex and look out over the gothic spires of this charming city.
Windsor
Hit the M4 motorway for the one-hour’s drive from London to riverside Windsor. Pay a visit to the world's largest and oldest occupied castle, the family home of British royalty for almost 1,000 years. Take a stroll along the Long Walk to the Copper Horse statue; there are great views to be had. Cross the town bridge over to Eton for a stroll along its age-old high street and catch a glimpse of its famous school, founded in 1440.
Stonehenge
The ancient stone circle of Stonehenge is a two-hour drive from London in good traffic. Much of the route winds through postcard-perfect rolling Wiltshire landscape. Why these colossal stones were dragged to this plain near Salisbury 5,000 years ago remains a tantalising mystery. A visitor’s centre on site will show you what is known so far.
Don't forget the London Congestion Charge
This hire station is just inside the London Congestion Charge zone.Drivers in central London between 7am and 6pm on Monday to Friday (look out for the Congestion Charge signs) have to pay the charge on a daily basis. The official site has maps and details on how to pay the charge.
