Road trips from Zaragoza
Aragón is a fascinating part of Spain that offers visitors the chance to sample Spanish cuisine at its best, as well as explore historic cities and pretty towns and villages. Just under an hour from Zaragoza (via the A-2) is Calatayud. The city is situated in southwest Aragón and dates back to Roman times. Numerous attractions are settled in the city centre, including the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria, which has been declared a national monument.
Illueca
Travel for an hour from Zaragoza to visit the pretty town of Illueca. There are a number of attractions here, the most famous being the Palacio Castillo Papa Luna. This imposing structure is located on the highest point of the town and displays a combination of medieval and Mudéjar influences. The town also has a museum and a couple of small churches.
Tarazona
It’s just under an hour by car (via the AP-68 and N/122) to Tarazona. Offering historic buildings, great food and a relaxed atmosphere, it’s the ideal place for those interested in gastronomy and sightseeing. The cathedral is not to be missed and reflects an unusual mix of gothic, Mudéjar and Renaissance influences.
