Plan your journey from Seville Airport
One of the largest historical centres in Europe, Seville is just a 20-minute drive from the airport. This lively city has plenty to offer, including numerous restaurants, a buzzing nightlife and a variety of historic sights.Seville’s spectacular cathedral is a popular tourist attraction, and the third largest church in the world. Also worth visiting is the Barrio Santa Cruz, the old Jewish Quarter, opposite the cathedral and peppered with unusual shops, galleries, restaurants and cafes. Allow yourself time to get lost in the streets of this historic heart of Seville. Once you've worked up an appetite, what better way to experience the diversity of flavours on offer than by settling into one of the numerous restaurants and tapas bars in the city? Most are open until the early hours of the morning.
Another gem is the royal palace or “Alcázar of Seville”, which is in fact a collection of several palaces – representing an eclectic combination of different religious influences and architectural styles. From there take a stroll, or a horse-drawn carriage, through the neighbouring Maria Luisa Park to the Plaza de España. This delightful square, decorated with ornate tiles, fountains and baroque arcades, was originally built for the Ibero-American exhibition of 1929 and remains a popular draw for both locals and visitors.
A more recent addition to the city is the controversial Metropol Parasol, located at La Encarnación square and known locally as the mushrooms. Climb to the top for great views of the structure and city centre.
If you’re in search of nightlife, head to Calle Betis – an impressive waterfront area boasting a popular strip of pubs, trendy bars, cafes and restaurants.
