Ibiza, the “white island” in the Balearics, offers the visitor a host of things to do and see. Pick up your Avis hire car from Ibiza town centre to begin your exploration.Ibiza is the third largest of the Balearic Islands, synonymous with nightlife and electronic music. There is however a rich cultural history to Ibiza with something to offer the whole family. The old port of Ibiza Town is particularly spectacular, with its winding streets, harbour and waterside promenade. Santa Eulalia justifies its reputation as Ibiza’s culinary centre with many of the island’s best restaurants alongside a reknowned beachside promenade and marina.
With UNESCO world heritage sites aplenty it is easy to see why Ibiza has featured as the backdrop for many films and novels. Much of the island is still covered in pine forest and a trip into the interior offers hidden gems such as the valley of Buscatell, a result of water engineering introduced during the Arab occupation many centuries ago.
The real majesty of Ibiza is found along its coastline, from the salt lakes of Ses Ses Salines in the south, to Ibiza’s numerous beaches and the Can Marçà Caves in the north.
In the evenings Ibiza caters for all tastes. Globally recognised nightclubs are ever present on the island but those seeking a slower pace have numerous options to sample local Ibizan cuisine. Being an island, fish is ever present on the Ibizan menu alongside familiar Spanish favourites such as paella and gazpacho (cold tomato and pepper soup).
Road trips from Ibiza Town
Ibiza is a small island, at just 39km long and 21km wide. Day trip destinations are easily accessible with your Avis hire car, nowhere is more than a 45 minute drive away. Pick up your Avis hire car from one of our island locations and explore these highlights.Santa Eulalia
A 25-minute drive north from Ibiza Town, via the e10 and PM810, sits Santa Eulalia. Long established as the islands gastronomic and cultural centre, the pace of life here is somewhat more relaxed than other parts of Ibiza. There are numerous art galleries showcasing local and international artists, excellent shopping and some of the islands best restaurants. Much of Santa Eulalia is centred around the palm-lined promenade, running the entire length of the sandy beach. This is a firm favourite with family visitors; perfect for a leisurely walk or simply a great place to sit and enjoy local hospitality at one of the many restaurants and cafes.
Cala Xuclar
In the very north of the island Cala Xuclar is one of the few Ibizan locations where one can truly get away from it all. A 45-minute drive on the E10 from Ibiza town, the cove has picturesque scenery and snorkelling opportunities on the crystal clear waters.
Can Marçà Caves
Located in the islands North West the Can Marça Caves are a 30-minute drive from Ibiza town on the PM-804. The caves were once a smugglers route but now welcome visitors. Highlights include spectacular sea views and a 10 metre waterfall accompanied by a music and light show.
