Taking Dublin as your start point, it’s around a 30-minute drive via the N1 to Malahide Castle and Gardens. The castle has a historic past and the oldest parts of it date back to around 1175. Built by an old English family, the Talbots, this impressive building has a collection of beautiful reception rooms and 260 acres of grounds to enjoy. The pretty maritime village Malahide is also worthy of exploration with its collection of bars, restaurants and boutiques.
Powerscourt Estate
From Dublin, via the M50 or M11 and N11, it’s around a 50-minute drive to Powerscourt House and Gardens. Situated in County Wicklow, this large country estate is spectacularly set in immaculate landscaped gardens. The gardens are themed and include Italian and Japanese inspired plots. Just 6km from the estate is Powerscourt Waterfall; at 121 metres high it’s Ireland’s highest and well worth a look.
Wicklow Mountains National Park
Drive from Dublin for around an hour and 20 minutes, via the R759, to visit the Wicklow Mountains National Park. This stunning 20,000 hectares of enchanting rural paradise includes lakes, mountains, large areas of mountain bogs and Glendalough Wood Nature Reserve. Perfect to enjoy a lakeside picnic or make the most of numerous walking and hiking opportunities.
