Enclosed by massive stone walls completed in the 16th century, Dubrovnik’s Old Town is filled with everything from baroque to Renaissance architecture – it’s beyond charming.Walk the pedestrian Stradun (or Placa) lined with shops, restaurants and cafes. Visit the baroque Church of Saint Blaise or the Renaissance Sponza Palace. There’s also the stunning Dubrovnik Cathedral, as well as the gothic Rector’s Palace, which has a museum housed inside. Prepare to be dazzled by the city’s marbled streets and the sparkling Adriatic Sea just beyond. You can even walk along the top of the city walls, which should definitely top your itinerary.
For a different perspective, take the cable car to the top of Mount Srđ, where you’ll be greeted with 360-degree views of the town below and the sea beyond. If you feel like soaking up the Mediterranean, you can rent a kayak and paddle just beyond the city walls … or find a place to dive in and have a swim.
Being by the sea, there are a number of fantastic beaches near the city too. Banje beach is the closet, located just beyond the city gates.
